Safety and Risk iPhone and iPad Applications

Safety “10x” series

This is a series of useful knowledge-based applications, which will be of interest to the practitioner and student of fields related to pure risk and safety.

Safety 101 – A compendium of risk and safety terms and their origins

Our first application, Safety 101 is a compendium of safety and risk terms and their origins. Available at the iTunes store since January 2010, this application was written by Professor Derek Viner because of the absence of dictionaries covering this field. The application contains some 200 terms of interest to both practitioners and students in these fields and succinct coverage of the main contributions of eleven published authors in the fields.

It is hoped that Safety 101 will help to stimulate debate about the terms and concepts used. To this end, we welcome suggestions and comments from users.

Development Log

  • August 2010.  A revised application icon and a number of new terms have been added.  This modification will be available soon on the iTune site as a free update.
  • 18th April 2010.  We added icons on function tabs and made some minor editorial changes

Safety 100 – Hazard Identification

This free application is being developed.  Its purpose is to provide at your finger tip assistance in the identification of hazards.

    Dear Edward,

for some reason this email of yours in the VGI website has only just come to my attention. My apologies. We have a few iPhone app ideas, other than Safety 101, but have not yet decided to commit to their development. It would be helpful for us to know what your thoughts are on what would be of value to you in your work eg. guidelines on hazard identification, a hazard register, etc.

    Regards

    Derek Viner
